The World No. 18 Lakshya Sen proved to be why he is so good when he stunned World No. 3, Anders Antonsen in the Round of 16 of the All England Open Badminton Championships 2024. He is currently the lone Indian in the competition from the country to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Indian shuttler is now set to compete against Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia on March 15, Friday from around 11:20 PM IST at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. The live-action of the clash will be available to stream on the Jio Cinema app and website in India. Sports 18-1 and Sports 18-3 channels will telecast the first and second sessions of the All England Open badminton quarter-finals live in India.

About Lakshya Sen's clash:

India's hopes rest heavily on the 22-year-old, who stands as the sole representative from the country advancing from the Round of 16. This tournament holds significant importance for the player as he sets his sights on securing a berth for the Paris Olympics 2024 as well.

His remarkable performance saw him clinch the runner-up position in 2022 at the same event, and now he aims to ascend to the top of the podium this year. Overcoming the formidable Antonsen with a score of 24-22, 11-21, 21-14 was undoubtedly a monumental achievement for the young Indian.

However, his sights are now set on clinching the title, a feat no Indian player has accomplished since 2001 when Pullela Gopichand secured the men's singles title. "I aim to surpass my performance from 2022," he expressed.

Lakshya Sen is now poised to face the World No. 10, Lee Zii Jia, presenting yet another challenging test. The two players have crossed paths three times before, with Sen emerging victorious in two of those encounters.

Other Indians:

On Thursday, India's top shuttler PV Sindhu faced a setback in the Round of 16, succumbing to a defeat 21-19, 21-11 against reigning world champion An Se Young of Korea.

The Indian women's doubles team comprising Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa also bid farewell to the tournament in the Round of 16. Despite clinching the opening game against Zhang and Zheng of China, they ultimately lost the match with scores of 11-21, 21-11, 21-11.

Additionally, the Indian men's doubles pair consisting of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty exited the competition following a straight-game loss to Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana of Indonesia, with scores of 16-21, 15-21.
