A lot's being said and written about Glenn Maxwell's imperious knock of 201 against Afghanistan but a section of the internet now believes that one of the main contributors to his success is the blessings of the Panjurli Daiva!

Yes, you heard that right. The Aussie batter was found lying on the ground battling serious cramps and spasms and was on the brink of exiting the match retiring hurt. A new meme, which has now gone viral on social media, reveals that the famed Panjurli deity that was popularized by Rishab Shetty in Kantara might have breathed some life into him. And soon after, Maxwell was back on his feet to strike mighty sixes all over Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

Needless to say, the meme has been created and circulated in complete jest mainly because Maxwell's situation on the field bore a stark resemblance to the fictional events in Kantara. Many would know that Rishab Shetty's character Shiva in the film finds himself down and out during a gruesome fight when he is possessed by Guliga daiva. Shiva then wakes from a near-death scenario and kills the bad guys in the most dramatic fashion.

In a manner, social media believes that Glenn Maxwell looked like he was in a similar spot of bother until the divine intervention occurred.

Speaking of the innings, one could never script or perhaps even imagine what Glenn Maxwell did at the Wankhede on Tuesday as he pulled his team out of dire straits against the very resilient Afghanistan. Maxwell walked into bat during the tall chase when the scoreboard read 49 for 4 and soon enough, he would find the match slipping away completely from control when the Aussies were 7 down for only 91, needing 201 more runs.

Unwilling to surrender, he would then take the lead and belt 21 boundaries and 10 sixes for his maiden double hundred which, incidentally, also became the highest score in any ODI chase to date. Australia's captain Pat Cummins hung around for a tenacious 12-run knock (68 balls) but it was Glenn Maxwell who kept the scoreboard ticking with his majestic shots, despite the cramps, the spasms and all other adversities.
