Not many would have tuned in to the India vs South Africa second Test at Newlands, Cape Town, expecting the game to get over in a matter of 107 overs. The match was folded within five sessions of the five-day game which resulted in the match getting the billing of the "shortest ever" Test match in the history of the nearly 150-year-old format.
While Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc on Day 1 with his superb spell, Jasprit Bumrah stepped up to the occasion in the second innings when his team needed him the most. Together, the pace duo illustrated just how good it is bowling in tandem and delivering at absolute best regardless of the conditions.
The conditions, interestingly, are the subject of Indian former cricketer Virender Sehwag. The smashing opening batsman was quick to point out as soon as the match was concluded that had a similar scenario, of more than 20 wickets falling on a single day of a Test match, occurred on an Indian pitch, the cricket community would perhaps be up in arms.
The Test match in question saw as many as 23 wickets falling on Day 1 and 10 wickets fell on the following day, with Rohit Sharma & Co. eventually seeing Team India over the line to level the Test series at 1-1.
Similarly, one has seen Test matches played on "spin-friendly" wickets in India being wrapped up within 3-4 days. These occurrences have often drawn criticism from cricket pundits from across the world and there have been instances of a few opining that Indian wickets are "doctored" to suit the home team's spin artillery.
What Sehwag intends to point out with his tweet is that there is selective outrage when something of this sort takes place. Many fellow social media users went on to concur with his view and alleged that there's hypocrisy while dishing out opinions and some even shared their views through hilarious memes.
Regardless, as Virender Sehwag did bring to our notice, Team India's pace attack is on par with the best at the moment, if not better. Over the past couple of years, particularly during the Virat Kohli reign, one has seen Indian fast bowlers being relentless with their skills and have troubled the best batters from around the world in their respective home conditions.
Jasprit Bumrah, who shared the Player of the Series trophy along with Dean Elgar, noted the same in his post-match presentation speech.
