Following the defeat in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 final, the future of Indian cricket stalwarts, particularly captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, in T20Is has become a major point of discussion. With only six months remaining until the T20 World Cup 2024, ongoing talks revolve around whether the duo will feature in the mega event or if the team management will rely on younger players to break India's decade-long ICC trophy drought.

According to reports, Rohit Sharma discussed his T20I future in a recent meeting with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Delhi, where they selected the squad for the South Africa tour. The 'Hitman' joined the meeting via Zoom call from London and reportedly inquired if the selectors wanted him to be part of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.

According to a 'Dainik Jagran' report, the BCCI officials present in the meeting, including Secretary Jay Shah, Vice President Rajeev Shukla, Treasurer Ashish Shelar, along with head coach Rahul Dravid and selectors, unanimously agreed that Rohit is the right choice to lead India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

They even expressed the desire for the skipper to assume captaincy of the T20I side from the South Africa tour onward. However, Rohit, after a demanding World Cup campaign, requested a break from the white-ball leg of the tour and will return to lead the side in a two-match Test series against the Proteas.
