Lars von Trier is the developer of the Danish absurdist supernatural horror miniseries Riget, which he co-wrote with Niels Vrsel and co-directed with Morten Arnfred. Each episode of the show, which is set in the neuroscience ward of Copenhagen's Rigshospitalet, encompasses a single day and follows the oddball professionals and inmates of the hospital as they stumble upon bizarre and frequently otherworldly occurrences. The show is known for its dry humour, sombre sepia colour palette, and the emergence of a chorus of Down syndrome-affiliated dishwashers who recount the unusual activities in the hospital in great detail. Von Trier himself wrote the tune for the main theme.
