The new season of the superhero Netflix show continues the narrative from the first instalment, two years down the line. The show revolves around a teenage boy who develops superpowers, therefore being pursued by greedy corporations which seek to exploit him, and his mother who protects him from all harm. The now 10-year-old Dion (Ja'Shiah Young) is more confident, savvier and braver with using his special abilities, developing new powers along the way. His mother Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) is financially more stable and has built a protective cocoon which helps her to ward off threats to Dion. The new season attempts racial commentary with a parallel thread revolving around newcomers, Simone Carr and her daughter, Janelle. The nuanced family dynamics is constantly framed against larger-than-life supernatural events that overshadow the characters' lives.
