The Magic of Shiri Plot: JioCinema has brought a new series, The Magic of Shiri. You can also watch it with your OTTPlay Premium subscription. The plot follows Shiri (played by Divyanka Tripathi), a housewife-magician who leaves her passion for magic to take care of her family. However, some significant incidents make her start practicing magic again with the help of a seasoned magician, Salim (played by Jaaved Jaaferi). During the process, Shiri goes through a lot that is extremely relevant to a working woman.
JioCinema's The Magic of Shiri stars Divyanka Tripathi, and Jaaved Jaaferi in the lead roles. The series has 10 episodes. Set in the early 2000s, Shiri is a housewife who is married to Naveen (played by Namit Das), who runs a printing shop. They have two kids - a daughter Mini and a son Sonu. Their life was going smoothly but one day, Naveen decides to leave the house and in the letter, he mentions that his business is in dire straits. This shatters the world of Shiri and her kids. She becomes flabbergasted by the incident and starts pondering about how to take care of her family alone.
She faces rejection and finally gets a call from the Great Magic Russian Theater to work as an assistant. There, she meets the greatest magician Salim. The series then takes us back to the time when Salim played the mediator between Naveen and Shiri's love story. At first, Shiri does not recognize him but later when she looks closely, she realizes that it is Salim. When Shiri asks why he is not doing magic anymore, Salim says that he had an accident and lost his one hand.
The series indeed has several incoherent plots and feels like some scenes have been unnecessarily dragged to reach the final point.
Shiri who leaves her favorite Punjabi food, her magic passion, and several other things for her family, becomes mentally strong when she decides she needs to take care of her kids alone. When one day, her daughter leaves the house for her father, the confused Shiri reaches the station with the police and finds her. She comes to know that Aakash Khanna (played by Nishak Verma) rescues her daughter. The next day, Aakash reaches Shiri's house and offers her a job at his company. After thinking, Shiri accepts it and starts taking care of the accounts part of the company. Side by side, she continues her magic practice with Salim. Meanwhile, Mini, Shiri's daughter goes to her grandfather's house (Naveen's parents). On the other hand, Shiri is asked to leave her magic to bring peace to her family but she does not listen.
The series rightfully highlights women's empowerment and also showcases what a woman goes through when she maintains her professional and personal life altogether.
Eventually, with the help of Salim, Shiri gets to know a lot of magic tricks. One day, Naveen comes back to his house and asks Shiri to forget everything. But is it really easy? This part focuses on how a woman's patience is tested. She even gets a divorce threat from her in-law's house. In the meanwhile, Aakash and Shiri begin to fall in love with each other but it does not grow further. She asks help from Aakash to find her a lawyer and also in magic.
During this process, she comes to know that KD, a great magician is none other than her father who pretended to be dead to fulfill his magic dream. When Shiri says she is also trying to become a magician, his father does not like the idea and goes against her as he thinks a girl cannot be a magician. Realizing no one is at her side except Aakash and Salim, Shiri gains more confidence, rather becomes mentally strong enough to achieve what she wants. At the final magic show, she showcases her magical power and flawlessly performs the cannonball fire trick. This makes the entire audience, including her father, give a standing ovation to her.
The Magic of Shiri highlights women's empowerment, how to go forward in life despite facing difficulties, and achieve the dream you always have anticipated. The plot, however, feels boring at some point with mixed pacing. Divyanka Tripathi and Jaaved Jaaferi's acting skills are praiseworthy. If you are yearning for a heartwarming tale filled with magic elements, then Birsa Dasgupta's series can be a nice choice.
