Story: Pike is ‘on the run’, after Till and Layton figure out that he was the one who used Lights’ formula to make the bomb and take out Layton. Josie figures that the only way to draw him out is a Tailie tradition, old Ivan’s way, wherein the feuding parties either talk and sort out their differences or take to arms and fight to the death.

Review: The tension between Layton and Pike has been simmering for a while and it finally came to head. For a while, Pike has been unhappy with Layton’s leadership and decisions; Ruth, he thought, would have done a better job at it, considering that Layton has not really stuck by his promise of democracy. Layton’s also been using Pike to do his dirty work. But the final straw for Pike was that Layton was ‘leading’ Snowpiercer to a New Eden that only exists in his head, a bit of information that Asha shared with him during their time down-train. So, no amounts of assurances that all could be forgiven and forgotten were going to work for him. The only way to end the impasse would be for Layton and Pike to call for knives and fight it out.

Honestly, after the fairly interesting start to the season, it seems as if the writers are grappling at straws to put a coherent narrative in place. Snowpiercer is not complete without a big baddie. Season 1 had Melanie and her dictatorial ways, then came Mr Wilford himself in Season 2 and now, he’s incapacitated, to the extent that he tells Audrey he’s come to see the logic in the possibility of New Eden. In stepped Pike in Season 3, but now he’s gone, so who will they turn against Layton now? Ruth?

But then, given how the episode ended, there may not be the need for another villain to emerge just yet. Someone has to step up and lead Snowpiercer, all 1029 cars, onward to the promised land – New Eden.

Verdict: Pike’s out of the way and Snowpiercer is still bearing down enroute to New Eden. Will we find out soon enough what awaits them there?

PS: Did y'all notice just how much lil Miles has grown?
