Sixer Season 1 review: Didn't know such an exceptional TVF drama series could exist without comedy

Story:

Sixer deals with the tale of a few youngsters from the small town of Indore, their sportsmanship as well as their personal life issues.

The plot revolves around Nikku and his fellow mates from his colony and showcases how they come together to play a local T-10 cricket tournament in a manifestation to win it along with the huge prize money.

Review:

Alok (Rahul Tiwari), a poster printer, runs to Nikku (Shivankit Singh Parihar) and Aussie (Badri Chavan) to re-form their cricket team, Vijay Nagar Vijetas, from their area as soon as he learns that the upcoming tournament's prize money is Rs 5 lakhs.

While Aussie gets convinced, the star player, Nikku, says no as he gets the exclusive chance to play from their rivals and one of the best teams in Indore, which was formed by a local but powerful politician.

However, things take a turn for the better when Nikku gets humiliated by the politician in front of a lot of people and finally decides to come back to his own team.

With Alok, Aussie, and Nikku, the Vijay Nagar Vijetas also get a few great players, including the rising tennis player Gargi (Karishma Singh) and a young aspiring cricketer named Arshad (Suraj Rikame), among others.

Firstly, Sixer showcases how the whole team takes time and a hell of a lot of effort to get a complete set of 11 players. As the tournament progresses, the series glimpses the personal issues and problems of the pivotal characters episode by episode.

Sixer gets gripping and pleasantly intense as this cricket team walks past multiple hurdles one by one to get to the finals.

Meanwhile, the issues and problems that each character deals with as an individual keep breaking the monotony of the show.

In the beginning, Nikku can be seen as stubborn and prideful, while towards the end, he gets a major change in his behaviour that makes him a great human along with a star player. The variation in the character has been played extremely well by Parihar. From body language to multiple emotions, the actor fulfils all requirements of his role gracefully.

Rikame is another performer in the show, who shines throughout and performs his character of a young, aspiring, lower-middle-class boy, Arshad, with great ease and perfect execution.

Meanwhile, watching Badri, the most adorable guy in this emotional drama, is a joy. His character, "Aussie," is that one friend who keeps harmony intact in the friendship and cares about everyone around him, a friend that not everyone deserves.

A few more characters and their individual journeys are also compelling, including Brij Bhushan Shukla's Rajesh, who is a middle-aged car dealer who never got a chance to follow his dream to become a cricketer due to social and family pressure.

Apart from some wonderful portrayals, the writers of Sixer have done an exceptional job. Not only the story and dialogue are great, but the climax in each episode is exhilarating.

The Viral Fever is known for its comedy-driven shows, including drama and romance. However, we never knew that an exceptional TVF drama series could exist without comedy.

Verdict:

Sixer is that one edge-of-the-seat drama that keeps you hooked to it without displaying any bloodshed sequences of cliche fights and romances. It makes you smile, it makes you cry, and it leaves you wanting more such content.
