Review: Director Domin D Silva has chosen an intriguing plot for his debut Tamil film, Regina, starring Sunainaa in the titular role. Its story isn't something which we have never come across, but it offers ample scope to deliver a suspense-packed revenge drama.

It begins with Regina (Sunainaa), a young woman, whose life revolves around her husband Jo (Ananth Nag). The couple, who leads a joyous life, is excited to welcome their baby. But a bank robbery turns Regina's life topsy-turvy after Jo gets killed during the unexpected heist. How she sets out to take revenge on those who made her life hell forms the rest of the story.

The plot is decent enough to generate gripping sequences, effective twists and turns and convincing performances to keep the audience hooked. With a dedicated Sunainaa headlining the project, things look interesting in the beginning. We are able to relate to what Regina undergoes and are convinced about her decision to take revenge on a few people.

The story then shifts to a few other locations, and it is here that the screenplay loses grip. A couple of characters are introduced after which the underlying emotions get diluted. The plot slightly tends to deviate, but things fall on track after a point.

However, the lack of effective writing bothers us as and when new characters are introduced. The protagonist is clear on what she wants and her role is etched out in an appealing manner. But the dearth of high moments, appealing twists and a strong antagonist play spoilsport as the story progresses.

While the background score lends support effectively in a few portions, it goes overboard and loud at certain scenarios. The biggest drawback the movie suffers from is its confusing timeline. It becomes difficult to keep track of the linear and non-linear sequences after a point. The flashback portions and current happenings appear disorganized beyond repair, leading to a disinterest towards the end.

Verdict: A decent plot and sincere effort from Sunainaa are let down by ineffective screenplay and weak characters. Watch it only if you don't mind enjoying a revenge drama which has a few flaws.
