Abhiram (Rakesh Galebi) and Akira (Sravanti Pattipati) are madly in love and pursue their careers in the US. One fine day, Akira gets news that her father has passed away and she returns to India to take care of her mother. Soon, Abhiram also follows Akira to India. When everything seems to be going fine, a crazy turnaround of events happens, and a time travel concept is introduced through Arunai Acharya(Manasa Veena). The special aspect is that this time travel episode is connected to mythology and the couple's life. What is that and how did Abhiram solve all these puzzles from the rest of the story?
Rahasyam Idham Jagath is directed by Komal Bhardwaj and cleverly interlaces the time travel concept with a mythological backdrop. How it is intervened is quite cool and makes for a good story. The mysterious thriller has a few good moments that thrills and the key emotions have been handled neatly.
What catches your attention is the suspense-filled scenes that are showcased in the mythological backdrop have been handled well. How science is connected to mythology is narrated engagingly. However, there are a few issues with the film. The screenplay is quite dull in a few scenes.
After a very good scene, there is a plethora of bad scenes that deviate from the topic. Just to create more interest the director has added several filler scenes which bore the audience. One also gets a feeling that the director missed out on so many thrills.
The subject had so much scope to create a lot of suspense in the narrative but the director failed to do so. If the narrative was good in parts, the scenes that follow surprise us with their silliness. Also, the logic goes for a toss in many areas. How the hero tries to save his friends, in this episode, looks out of place.
In a way, the wow factor is missing in the film. Such stories need to be told in a very engaging manner. But sadly that does not happen and things get derailed in the latter half. The anxiety with which the film starts and comes to a breakpoint is not sustained in the latter half.
Too much concentration happens on the hero and due to this, the other key characters in the film look half-backed. Coming to the performances, Rakesh Galebi is impressive as the main lead. Though he looks rustic in the initial stages of the film, he copes well.
Sravanti Pattipati is amazing as the female lead. She has a good screen presence and does well in all the emotional scenes. Manasa Veena in a key role holds your attention. Bharghav Gopinadham is okay in his role. The VFX done for the film looks neat. The camera work is impressive but the production design could have been a lot better.
The editing is just about okay as the film needs editing of at least ten minutes. Rahasyam Idham Jagath has a great premise and clicks in parts. If the director would have added more drama and tension, things would have made a lot of sense. But that does not happen and the film falters in a few areas limiting its reach.
On the whole, Rahasyam Idham Jagath is a time travel film that has a touch of mythology. While these aspects have been handled well, a few unnecessary scenes and slow pace hamper the film's outcome. All those who love films that have time travel can give this film a shot.
