Story: The story is set in a dystopian world Gloreth, which was named after the great empress who won the battle against a monster and built her own kingdom. The whole city is walled and has been ruled by the successors of the creators since forever. However, the latest heir tries to bring equality and gives a chance to people of all classes. She opens an institution and trains future leaders to get the superior king or queen in the future.
Review: Based on the 2015 graphic novel of the same name, Nimona chronicles a tale that talks about how casteism and racism still exist in a dystopian world, which is fortunately free from sexism and accepts all kinds of relationships. Nimona somehow successfully showcases a world which seems original enough with all the technology including flying cars, interesting billboards as well as world-class security systems among others.
Ballister Boldheart (played by Riz Ahmed) runs away as he gets falsely convicted as a queen killer just a few minutes before getting crowned as a new king. Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz ), who is known as the shape-shifting monster, enters the film with quite a murky personality. However, her behaviour and helping hand towards the unfortunate Ballister make her personality all clear.
The animated sci-fi comedy film further showcases the adventure that Nimona and Ballister go through together to dig out the truth in front of all the people of Gloreth.
The Nick Bruno and Troy Quane directorial is visually appealing due to the great cinematography and its idea of a future world with everything that humans are currently predicting. Meanwhile, it also keeps the essence of culture intact in this dystopian place that makes you relate to the film. Meanwhile, Robert L. Baird and Lloyd Taylor's fun-packed screenplay is just what is needed in any type of film. The film keeps you hooked to the screen the entire time, and the uncertain twists and turns.
Nimona and Ballister's chemistry as strangers-turned-best buddies is also the highlight of the film. As the story progresses, it sees how they find peace and comfort with each other in a world where everyone is against them.
Verdict: Based on the concept of good vs bad, the Netflix film is a fresh take on a story about a dystopian world. Nimona, which is interesting, intriguing hilarious and full of adventures, is well worth your time.
