What’s it about:

Nidhi’s Lunch Box is a short film about a young girl learning to share with the less fortunate. When Nidhi’s mother packs a nutritious lunch for her to take to school, Nidhi discards it without giving it a second thought. However, what happens next changes her outlook on life.

What’s hot:

The film emphasizes the importance of good teachers. It is only after Nidhi’s teacher tells her about how several homeless children spend days without food, that she becomes aware of her privilege at a young age.

It is also marvellous to witness a small child-like Nidhi being so compassionate to a young homeless girl. Not only does she give her her own tiffin, but also feeds her with her own hands. The film highlights the innocence children are born with. We realize that she was completely unaware of how a vastly underserved population lives their life. However, when she learns about it, her heart sinks, and she distances herself from everyone. Her acting is also phenomenal, as the audience knows exactly how she feels without her saying a word.

The film also acts as a commentary on poverty in the country. It is heartbreaking to see the young girl begging for food, a basic necessity. She also mentions that she sleeps wherever she finds a vacant space. She also has no parents and often wanders on her own, posing a risk to her safety.

What’s not:

The film may seem a little monotonous to some, as it portrays the scene of Nidhi going to school and returning home multiple times. Apart from this, the short film is a truly heartwarming one.

Verdict:

Nidhi’s Lunch Box is definitely worth the watch. It will be sure to win your heart and give you a fresh perspective on life.
