Nenu Super Woman, aha’s reality show that invites pitches from budding female entrepreneurs across various arenas, continues to draw eyeballs for its effort to put women in the spotlight and nurture the growth of their companies. Angels, the jury comprising business honchos, invest and mentor the startups as per their preference and how well they resonate with the pitches.
The jury comprising Sudhakar Reddy, Dr Sindhura Narayana, Rohit Chennamaneni, and Renuka Bodla, had a new addition this week in the form of Karan Bajaj, the founder of Bajaj Electronics. Two businesswomen Lavanya Sunkari and Madhuri Akella came up with impressive pitches to seek investment for their companies Laurik and Second Innings (House).
Lavanya Sunkari, Laurik
Right in her childhood, Lavanya, the founder of Laurik, was groomed by her mother about the need to be financially independent and creating employment. While Lavanya was a marketing head at an MNC at 26, she headed a failed startup, learnt the right lessons from it to establish Laurik. The wellness firm provides vitamins shots to solve various health issues of men and women.
Discovering the benefits of lauric acid (a fatty acid found in breast milk), also found in coconut, Lavanya, also a nutrition expert herself, created a series of wellness products that offers solutions for skin, hair care, weight loss, gut and eye care, to name a few. It boasts over 36000 consumers, having delivered 10 lakh shots. While she sought an investment of Rs 70 lakhs for 2% equity, Renuka and Karan Bajaj agreed upon investing Rs 50 lakhs in Laurik for 4% equity.
Madhuri Akella, Second Innings
Madhuri’s idea to start Second Innings was born out of a conversation with an NRI friend Sandhya, who wanted a day-care, activity centre to keep her mother occupied. Upon her research and not finding any such centres, she decided to establish an assisted living, elder-care facility in Secunderabad. The centre strives to provide a sense of companionship among the elderly lot.
Besides offering a series of indoor activities to keep the elderly occupied, they give them a chance to pursue their hobbies, be trained by experts, take care of their health needs. For those who opt to stay in the facility, the management takes them out for picnics, movies with customised packages according to a customer’s needs. While Madhuri sought Rs 40 lakh investment for 20% equity, Sindhura Narayana finally agreed for a Rs 20 lakh investment for 15% equity.
