Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty Review: A coming-of-age romance with relatable emotions and hilarious fun

Story

Anvita Shetty(Anushka Shetty) is a master chef who does not believe in love or marriage. But it is her mother's dying wish that makes her take the bold decision of having kids without marriage. She decides to become a mother through a sperm donor and finalizes a middle-class stand-up comedian Siddhu(Naveen Polishetty). The journey of becoming a mother begins but Siddhu falls for Anvita and this changes the equation between the couple. Did Siddhu go ahead with his sperm donation? Did Anvita change her mind and marry Siddhu? That forms the rest of the story.

Review

Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty is Anushka Shetty's comeback to the big screen after a gap of five years and she looks fresh as ever. The character suits her age, image, and the way modern women think these days, Anushka portrays it in a super manner. In a way, she lives in her role. 

As she is facing the screen after a long time, Anushka looks rigid in a few scenes but this is used as an advantage as her character is the one who is looking for a sperm donor and is on an edge all the time. The star heroine looks beautiful and has also been styled in a graceful manner.

Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty has a fresh concept that is showcased through a woman's perspective. The way modern women think about life partners is neatly showcased by the director Mahesh. As the topic is about a sperm donor, there are no scenes that look vulgar or make you uncomfortable. Director Mahesh has weaved a beautiful story out of a contemporary idea and weaved a fun romance that has a good ending.

But the aspect that makes Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty click is undoubtedly the performance of Naveen Polishetty. After Jathi Rathnalu, the talented actor picks up an amazing script and delivers a knockout punch. The way he interacts with Anushka, and performs the standup comedian's role are hilarious. The stand-up acts showcased are not lengthy and create decent laughs. The best of the film is when Naveen finds out that Anushka is after the hero for sperm donation is a highlight.

But where does the film falter? Well, it is the post-internal part which lacks the spark. The conflict point is brought in on a decent note but the way it is absorbed by the hero and his actions thereon do not create much of an impact. When you think the tempo is going down, things turn emotional with one scene and till the end, the film is emotional and ends with proper justification leaving everyone pleased.

Radhan has composed the music for this film and all his songs gel supremely well in the narrative. The song that comes in the climax is a tear-jerker for sure. The production design, camera work, and locations chosen give the film an urban vibe. The topic of becoming a mother without marriage is delicate and has not been handled much in Telugu cinema. 

But it is director Mahesh Babu's writing that holds our attention. The character of Naveen Polishetty makes the proceedings light and makes the audience feel light even though delicate topics like sperm count are frequently used in the narrative. The editing in the post-interval scenes should have been even more crisp.

The character of Murali Sharma and how parents force their kids to do what everyone is doing and how one should perceive their dreams is showcased through the main hero choosing to become a stand-up comedy. There are several such moments that are addressed in an impressive manner but the one that catches your eye is the fun part and romance which is handled in a superb way.

Verdict

On the whole, Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty has a novel storyline and is a bold take on modern relationships. Anushka Shetty makes a striking comeback with a role that resonates with modern women these days. But it is Naveen Polishetty who steals the show with his fun act once again making this film an endearing watch with your entire family. Recommended.
