Story

The show is centered around Maya Bazaar, a very posh gated community in Hyderabad. A popular star(Navdeep) who is also the brand ambassador inaugurates the townhouses and mysteriously dies by falling from the roof of the corporate office. This leads to funny chaos as cops start investigating the case. The rest of the story is about how various families featuring Naresh, Jhansi, Hari Teja, Sunaina, Raja Chembolu, and Miyang Chang handle this situation.

Review

Zee 5's latest web series, Maya Bazaar For Sale is written and directed by Gautami Challagulla and she has picked some seasoned actors for this fun web series. The story is set in a gated community and is quite relatable setting-wise. But the manner in which Gautami narrates the entire web series is quite disappointing. There is absolutely no seriousness in the narration as the show falls flat from the first episode itself. The way Navdeep's character is introduced looks outright silly. The seasoned actor hams like there is no tomorrow. and this itself gives an idea as to how the rest of the show is going to be.

Each of the stories has a decent graph and interesting characters but once again, the direction falls flat as Gautami fails to evoke comedy or create any emotion between these characters. In order to make the show light-hearted, she has made the proceedings silly and boring. There are seven episodes in total and none of them hold your attention. In a way, Maya Bazaar For Sale sounds hilarious on paper but falls execution-wise.

In all the families showcased Naresh's disjoint family looks good. Naresh, who is in good form plays Pastry with ease and evokes decent fun. It is when his character or the one played by his daughter Eesha Rebba comes on screen, the series looks interesting. Eesha Rebba is very good in her role and her chemistry with Miyang Chang is very good. The singer cum actor, Miyang Chang is a surprise addition to the cast and does well in his role. Jhansi is also okay on her part.

The track featuring Ravi Varma and his loud wife played by Hari Teja is boring as hell. It is good to see Hari Teja on screen after a long time but the manner in which she overacts leaves you irritated. When it comes to performances, Sunaina's track featuring Raja Chembolu is quite good. The way the YouTube star interacts and shows her frustration is so good to see on screen. Raja Chembolou was okay and so were Kota Srinivasa Rao, Ravi Varma, and others. The series has some good moments when comedian Gautam Raju comes on screen and creates a fun atmosphere.

Rana Daggubati has produced this series and one can understand he backing the project as his late legendary grandfather, Rama Naidu has produced similar films in the past. All these stories were similar but had great comedy. But here in Maya Bazaar, the audience is taken for granted, and not one episode creates an interest. The conflict showcased and the mentalities of the people living in such gated communities are showcased well. But as a package, the show does not hold your attention.

The production values of the show are top notch and the casting is also done well. The dialogue written and the way Naresh mouths them is so good to see. The editing is decent as each episode is under forty minutes. But what makes the show go down is the lack of proper entertainment and laugh-out-loud moments. The story of the show suits the big screen but the makers have divided the story into parts and spoilt them in narration.

Verdict

On the whole, Maya Bazaar For Sale is an over-the-top comedy caper that lacks basic seriousness. Though the setting and star cast is done right, a number of exaggerated moments, lack of basic emotional touch, and silly proceedings make this show a disappointing watch.
