Story:

Puran (Gurnaam Bhullar) is a YouTuber from Toronto. He is deceived into coming to Punjab. There, Puran meets Mannat (Sonam Bajwa) and the two have an undeniable chemistry. But will someone deny the chemistry saying Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal? (I won't marry you)

Review:

As expected from the film, Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal is colourful and interesting. We say interesting because the first scene shows a huge twist, one that is rare to see in Pollywood (the Punjabi film industry).

Both Sonam Bajwa and Gurnaam Bhullar's entry as Mannat Kaur and Puran Singh in the film is quite impactful. You get to explore about their characters from their first scene itself.

The comic elements in the film come in the form of mothers. While always savage, here they are part of hilarious situations. Although it begins with the mothers, soon, the movie has many scenes that provide a comic relief from the drama that follows.

One thing I cannot understand about this film is why every time they introduce Mannat, she has to play with her dupatta. After all, this is not the 90s Bollywood, right? Nonetheless, Puran's mother perfectly describes her - as a girl with the golden heart who does crazy things.

Gurnaam's Puran is inspired from BB Ki Vines. The scene is very brief but evident and leaves little to no impact. As a character, he plays a Punjabi munda just as they come – with jatt (never give up) attitude till someone wins them over.

The chemistry between Sonam and Gurnaam is still intact since Guddiyan Patole. Their first meeting is a memorable one, even if it is not something you see for the first time.

Their love story develops in a cute way and since you already know there is a huge twist, there is always something to look forward to. The two are seen like best friends almost instantly and it is quite heartwarming to see that. It is almost like you are transported back to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai's good bits.

The dialogues like Puran stating, "Mannat maangya si (I wish making a wish/I was wishing for Mannat)" or "Soch kiddi cheez hoyengi, jo Puran ki vi Mannat aa (Imagine what she would be like, that Puran also wishes for her)" go straight through your heart and make this film a true blue romantic drama.

What I love about this film is that there are scenes where the expressions take the scene to a new level. It is what makes the scene something to look forward to.

The music and songs in the film are a delight. They make the film more enjoyable than it already is.

Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal also brings out the true essence of Punjab through the concept of joint families and the grandparents cutely so in love with each other that they help each other out through tough times. In fact, Mannat and Puran even exchange a dialogue where Puran, brought up in Toronto, has no clue about Punjab's culture or the people. He judges the women based on popular Punjabi songs and Mannat corrects him saying that it is definitely not right to judge people on the basis of songs.

Given how awesome and at the crucial point where this film's interval is, you would regret not watching it in theatres. This scene is executed so well that you can't help but stay intrigued about 'what next?'

The movie deals well with the changing perspective with the changing generation. What was acceptable and quite common in the older generations is unfair and hurtful to watch for the newer generations. One scene in the film, featuring bebe with the whole family, including Puran and Mannat, shows that perfectly. The music in this scene is a classic but despite that, it adds to Sonam and Gurnaam's acting through facial expressions.

There is extended drama in the film but it never gets boring. While the colourful sets and attires do help in distracting you, the scene itself is treated with sensitivity and never does it get so overly-emotional that you can't tolerate it anymore. These scenes will take you back to Hasee Toh Phasee.

By the end of the film, you will be left smiling. Of course, there is action in the movie as well and it is just the perfect ending needed in a movie like Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal.

Verdict:

Don't even think twice if you are a fan of Pollywood and wished to watch Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal. There are some films that make you feel like you wasted your life and then there are films that instantly lift up your mood and get you immersed with the story and the characters. Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naah falls in the latter category.

This clean family entertainer is everything you could ever ask for. It has comedy, action and drama all in the right amount, which makes Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal a great watch.

As a bonus, all the actors have some role to play and Sonam and Gurnaam are impressive like always. Go watch this already!
