Katha Kamamishu Story

The film is set amidst a group of couples. Satya (Venkatesh Kakumanu) and Usha (Harshini) fall in love and get married. Divya and Balu have an arranged marriage, but Balu’s strict nature frustrates Divya. On the other hand, Sridhar(Karuna Kumar) and Kalpana(Indraja), both with children from previous marriages, marry for companionship. Kiran and Sravanthi elope after her parents oppose their relationship. Each couple faces dissatisfaction and the story follows how these relationships evolve and the couples find happiness.

Katha Kamamishu Review

Katha Kamamishu is directed by the duo Gautham and Karthik and revolves around love and marriage. The film which is now streaming on Aha explores how four couples handle various marital issues some struggle in a joint family, while others deal with insecurities. Although the directors chose a contemporary approach, the presentation feels routine and lacks novelty.

One major drawback is the slow pace. Despite a short runtime, the film feels long. Dividing the story into multiple tracks dilutes the emotions and bogs down the narrative. While the directors initially focus on each couple’s issues in detail, the latter half feels rushed, leaving little time for proper resolution. Some characters are underdeveloped, while others receive too much attention.

Among the tracks, Karuna Kumar and Indraja’s storyline stands out. Their mature performances are a highlight, though their roles are sidelined. Indraja’s portrayal of a cop is subtle yet emotional. The other tracks provide decent fun in the first half, with a few jokes about marriage and joint families working well.

Performance-wise, Venkatesh Kakumanu excels in his role. The supporting cast, mostly newcomers, delivers adequately, with Indraja being the standout. Karuna Kumar, who turns actor in this film, performs decently. Kruthika Roy and Krishna Prasad also do well in their parts.

The visuals effectively capture the small-town setting, and RR Dhruvan's background score enhances some scenes. Production values and dialogues are commendable. However, the editing, especially in the second half, could have been tighter. The screenplay lacks grip and fails to leave a lasting impact. While the concept is meaningful, it feels underwhelming overall.

Katha Kamamishu Verdict

On the whole, Katha Kamamishu has a good point but is narrated in a very old-school manner. The biggest drawback is there is no pain in the emotions and everything is narrated in a simple manner making this film a dull watch this weekend.
