Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga story

George Miller has continued his Mad Max universe with its fifth installment, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which is out in theatres for the audience to watch. Furiosa, a prequel to Miller's 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road, follows the story of the lead character (Furiosa) being abducted from Green Place of Many Mothers by a ruthless Warlord Dementus' troop. It further traces the survival journey of Furiosa in the Wasteland amid the brutal clash between Dementus and Immortan Joe and other events that take place in between.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga review

It's been over four decades since George Miller has kept the audience engaged in his epic Mad Max universe. His recent release, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, transports us back to the Wasteland. As a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, this film traces how Furiosa came into being as one fierce woman and the most compelling character of the franchise.

Taking us back in time, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga kickstarts with a young Furiosa being abducted from her Green Land by a mighty and vicious Warlord Dementus' troop. Her abduction is followed by an attempt to escape from Dementus' captivity with the help of her mother, Mary Jo Bassa. Little does young Furiosa know her life is about to change for the worse. After Dementus kills her mother, the young one sets out on a mission, which is a gripping adventure in itself.

What's interesting about Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is how minutely Miller has detailed the journey of Furiosa from her childhood to her youth through various chapters. Behind this fierce and empowering girl that Furiosa is, lies a story of suffering and sacrifice. It hasn't been a bed of roses for the young girl but she rises from the ashes while battling the power dynamics within the Wasteland.

While each chapter of Miller's film highlights how Furiosa battled all odds, the pace at which a few chapters unfold, gets a bit exhausting. That said, the filmmaker makes it up with some nail-biting action sequences in between. However, the initial build-up of the storyline is another place where Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga falters. It takes a while before you get engrossed in the movie and enjoy Miller's piece of work.

Talking about the performances, Chris Hemsworth, as Dementus, is the most menacing yet delightful character to watch in this epic saga. As the Warlord of a Biker Horde, the actor offers more hard-hitting and gruesome moments over the lighter ones, which make you chuckle (at the way Dementus conducts himself).

Alyla Browne, seen as the young Furiosa (in her childhood), plays her part to the T but the character's responsibility is shouldered even better by Anya Taylor-Joy who plays the adult Furiosa. Anya breathes life into her character and delivers a striking performance, which shall be remembered. Her sequences with Tom Burke aka Praetorian Jack are heartwarming to watch as they highlight a ray of hope for Furiosa amid all her suffering.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga final verdict

Chris Hemsworth's menacing act and Anya Taylor-Joy's heroic performance ensure the perfect big screen experience with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
