Maria (Monika Frajczyk) works as a courier for a package delivery service in the movie Delivery By Christmas. Maria, a 30-year-old delievery woman, who is organised and considerate but struggles to fulfil her deliveries on time as on Christmas Eve, a disgruntled superior labels her final shipments incorrectly and sends her on a route that delivers every wrong thing to every wrong recipient. Krzysiek (Piotr Pacek) abruptly interrupts Maria's holiday evening as soon as he opens his box and discovers it is not the heirloom ring he had anticipated his grandfather would send to help Krzysiek's forthcoming engagement. He rams his way into her van and follows the irate courier on her rectification mission while disparaging and mocking Maria.
Delivery By Christmas is a pleasant Christmas watch with some comforting elements. The innocence of the actors, who are true to their characters, keeps you glued to the screen even though there isn't the conventional hero entrance or slow-mo shots of the female lead. You will be slightly entertained, amused, and moved by the different themes that the comedy's plot touches on. The film is a rather upbeat tale about how misunderstandings can lead to wonderful beginnings.
We also get an insight into modern families and relationships owing to the drama. We witness the family members of the people whose packages were delivered incorrectly beside Maria. Every character's life is portrayed in its entirety, including all of their issues and desires. Despite the fact that some relationships seem to improve following a misunderstanding, others break out and end.
The romantic comedy has some great elements and could have been a great film. Unfortunately, the writers ruin the moment and deliver a mediocre movie and it falls apart during the climax which could have been the most powerful part of the film.
Although we don't see much of Krzysztof and Zuzia's relationship, there are signs of strain because Krzysztof doesn't seem to be in a good mood. His voyage begins with the notion of proposing to his fiancée and ends with a less-than-desirable result. As it is, after all, a romantic movie, the graph of how the main characters' love story begins or develops should have been given more attention, but the makers let us down.
Having saying that, Delivery by Christmas is subpar. Although the actors give it their all and the film touches on a few important subjects, the overarching objective is unclear and the plot is too disorganised.
With its eccentric characters and cheesy Christmas clichés, the Polish romantic comedy Delivery by Christmas aims to put you in the holiday spirit. But by the time the movie was through, I felt more dejected than merry since the comedy fell flat and the romance wasn't given enough of a push.
