Chicken Nugget story

Chicken Nugget is the weird story of a troubled father (Ryu Seung-ryong), whose life takes a dark turn when his daughter, Min-ah, turns into a Chicken Nugget after mistaking a mysterious machine for something else. Choi Seon-man, along with his eccentric intern Ko Baek-joong (Ahn Jae-hong), team up to transform Min-ah back into a human being. The rest of the plot follows their misadventures during their odd quest.

Chicken Nugget Review

Featuring a solid star cast with Kim Yoo-jung, Ryu Seung-ryong, and Ahn Jae-hong in lead roles, Chicken Nugget blends different genres like fantasy, mystery, and comedy. Directed by Lee Byeong-heon, the whacky drama is based on a webtoon of the same name by Park Ji-dok. Chicken Nugget’s bizarre narrative of human transformation into a crispy fried chicken grabs your attention from the very first episode.

Chicken Nugget is a multi-layered drama that seamlessly blends mystery and science with unique themes like human greed and absurdism. It builds curiosity but winds up with a disordered ending that is a bit complex, unless you’ve been watching it attentively.

Chicken Nugget’s innovative narrative and top-notch star cast, which also feature a cameo from My Demon actress Kim Yoo-jung as Min-ah, add to the thrill. Although the actress has a short screen time, her pivotal role is at the centre of the plot. Squid Game actress Jung Ho-yeon also has a cameo; she plays a food critic who is the former girlfriend of Ko Baek-joong.

Every scene is meticulously planned with witty dialogue. There is a scene in which Min-ha's nugget gets mixed up with other nuggets in an eatery, making it a comedy of errors. This scene is quite hilarious, with the poker-faced characters entangled in the dilemma of losing their loved one.

Chicken Nugget is a fusion of different comedic genres. From absurd and wisecrack to slapstick, cringe and deadpan humour, the drama effectively portrays various situations. The quirky yellow pants character has already won over the audience and will remain with you for a long time. The well-crafted dialogue and catchy background score pique the interest of viewers and complement the eccentric characters.

Chicken Nugget is a lighthearted comedy series that is bizarre and ridiculous, thanks to an extraterrestrial creature twist and a crazy scientific discovery. However, if you’re looking forward to making sense of the drama or the extremely odd narrative, you better give up.

Chicken Nugget Verdict

Chicken Nugget is a short and crisp drama with absurd comedy and slapstick humour that gets weirder with each episode. All 10 episodes are nearly 30 minutes long, which means that you can easily binge-watch the series in a day or two. Stream it for an overall fun ride with a story so weird that you end up rooting for the dedicated father and the oddball yellow pants. Despite comedy and a well-paced mystery, Chicken Nugget will not suit everyone’s palette. So you might want to skip it if you like melodrama or romance.

Chicken Nugget is currently available to stream on Netflix.
