Story

The film revolves around a couple Arjun(Simha Koduri) and Maya who are madly in love. In order to impress Maya, Arjun pretends to be affluent and convinces her of his wealth. On the other hand, Samuel(John Vijay) targets Maya's family for a rare diamond known as Shaali Shuka Gaja (SSG). Things take a sharp turn when Samuel suddenly kidnaps Maya's father and demands the ring as ransom. The rest of the story is about how Arjun finds the ring and wins the respect of Maya's father.

Review

Director Praneeth Bramandapally has directed this film and has chosen a very interesting cast for the film. The crime comedy is about a missing ring which is worth crores of rupees and a con man played by John Vijay is after it. The plot showcases a chef played by Simha Koduri trying to cheat the female lead, Yukti Thareja, in order to make big money. How the character of Arjun gets involved in the case of a missing diamond is the basic plot of the film.

The villain gang of John Vijay and the reason for which they are after an expensive ring is brought well into the narrative through decent comedy. The likes of Viva Harsha dominate the villain gang and this creates some fun moments. But the actual action in Bhaag Saale happens only in the second half. The chase for the diamond and the thrills showcased look good only in the second half.

One of the biggest letdowns of the film is the lack of seriousness in the proceedings. The villain gang is made to look silly for the most part and there is no tense atmosphere created even though the film is a crime comedy. All the jokes executed in the first half are silly and do not make sense. Also, the entry of way too many characters bore the audience and only prolong the film for no reason.

The intro to the basic plot happens on a decent level as the director does not beat around the bush and shows the main lead as a man who wants to marry a rich girl and settle down in life. Bhaag Saale had the potential for solid comedy but the director did not explore it much and a few well-developed characters could have enhanced the overall experience of the film. Simha Koduri, the son of MM Keeravani plays the main lead and he as a man who wants to make it at any cost does a decent job in the film. With each passing film, Simha is only improving and that shows on screen.

Neha Solanki does well in the first half but her role does not get much importance in the second part. Rajeev Kanakala plays the hero's dad and he overacts for no reason throughout the film. Even though it is for a limited time, comedian Satya makes his presence felt and he as a sadist cop, does quite well. Anchor Varshini and John Vijay do their parts in a decent manner. But it is Viva Harsha who holds the show until the end. He, as the villain's henchman evokes decent comedy.

The film has music by Kaala Bhairava and his score is not that great but his background score was impressive. The visuals, crime setup, and props give the film a realistic feel. The camerawork is also amazing but the editing in the second half could have been better. Director Praneeth had a decent story at his helm but the way he went about narrating it in a silly manner disturbs the flow of the proceedings and irritates the audience.

Verdict

On the whole, Bhaag Saale is a crime comedy that works only in bits and pieces. The comedy showcased evokes a few laughs but the lack of twists and basic seriousness in the narration takes the film down making it look silly and over the top.
