Aindham Vedham story

Anu (Sai Dhansika) is in Varanasi to perform last rites for her mother, when she is entrusted to deliver a box containing something precious, to a small town Ayangarapuram in Tamil Nadu. Even as Anu is vehement about this since she has singing auditions to attend, circumstances lead to Anu to the village where she finds her fate is destined for something else. Is there an existence of fifth Veda, if so, where is it and what are its uses? The Zee5 series attempts to answer this.

Aindham Vedham review

Aindham Vedham has interesting core connecting the past and future, as its backbone. Creation is the concept that it dwells on, and with the ancient Hindu texts Vedhas as the representative from the past, it has Artificial Intelligence from the future to connect the dots. What if the AI slowly begins to take over the world, as it finally lays its hands on creation, the only aspect of mankind still not under the control of humans? With a concept that lays with abundance of potential, Aindham Vedham is almost there, just that it gets messed up without clear execution.

Our perspective takes from the viewpoint of Anu, who is on the pursuit to attend singing auditions, and out of nowhere when she is constantly asked to go Ayangarapuram, the series begins to feed you something. But soon it is lost, when there are multiple tracks involved. A lawyer who is investigating the IP theft of bio ink and 3D printer, an US-return writer who is looking for his lost computer, a man whose autistic child has the ability to read ancient language, a father and daughter come to the same village in order to perform some rituals, and we also see a man who has girlfriend in AI, which almost satisfies all his needs. In parallel, we are constantly hinted about the existence of fifth Veda, which protects the secrets to creation.

Even as the series as interesting plot-holes and try to merge it between, Aindham Vedham fails to make all these tracks converge to form single narrative. After a point, you begin to slowly lose interest in the characters’ pursuit and the mystery of the series, for you are given momentous highs and revelations to quench your interest. Like I said earlier, even as the series has potential connective devices, the series fails to capitalize on them.

Aindham Vedham verdict

Aindham Vedham has something going on and it cannot be ruled that the writers have not put efforts into it. Just that the series lacks a cohesive narrative to connect the various dots it creates. The show has decent production values, and known faces on the cast list, Aidham Vedham can be given a shot to watch, but if it is really binge-worthy is debatable.
