Story:
Set in The Orange city, Nagpur, the intense-thriller film is inspired by a real-life event, where 200 women from a Dalit community go rebellious to punish a ruthless criminal.
Review:
The fight of Dalit women takes a drastic turn when 200 of them seek revenge from a serial molester and rapist in an open court. The movie begins with one of the most unexpected but strong scenes. The fact that 200 Halla Ho is based on a true incident makes the watch even more crucial and shocking at the same time.
Sahil Khattar, who has portrayed the character of the antagonist, Bali Chaudhary, has been cherished as an actor, however, the audiences will hate every ounce of the non-hero in the film. From eve-teasing to rape and murder, the movie has boldly shown the crime against women. However, the film specifically focuses on the ruthless crimes against Dalit women.
In one of the scenes, Saloni Batra, who portrayed the character of a senior reporter was seen saying, “In India, the VIPs come first then common people, after that the people from below-poverty-line then Dalit and finally Dalit women,” which depicts how much of struggle those women have to go through to live their lives with dignity.
Amol Palekar, who is a retired celebrated Dalit Judge, has been seeing advocating his identity as a government servant and not by his caste. However, the circumstances drove him to finally identify him as one of the lower caste people and go the extra mile to save the 200 women from their fate of being a criminal forever. Amid the film, the veteran actor’s role doesn’t seem very strong at the beginning, however, it becomes one of the most crucial characters.
Rinku Rajguru, who plays the protagonist, Asha, begin with setting the criminals on fire and strengthing the people to fight against the heinous crime going on for a decade. The actor has stood out as a feminist we have and need more in our country.
200 Halla Ho also showcases a mild love story that ultimately gets lost in the thin air of a crime based movie. Barun Sobti, who has been expected to give his best performance as the lawyer fails to get the agreement of the viewers due to his limited screen time.
The location of the film as a basti of the lower caste people seemed convincing and apt in the film.
Once again, Kattar performance will be listed as one of the vicious antagonists due to his look, body language as well as dialogue delivery.
Verdict:
Despite all the ingredients, the vibe of the film doesn’t look as strong as it should have been. 200 Halla Ho touches numerous sensitive social issues but mostly in dialogues and less in action, except the opening scene. Yet the movie oughts to be watched once.
