Arun Kumar aka Atlee entered the Tamil film industry and initially worked as an assistant director to S Shankar in the films Enthiran and Nanban. After garnering a great response for his short film which was streamed across various online platforms, he directed his first feature film, Raja Rani, in 2013 which went on to become a commercial success.
He seems to have acquired the Midas touch as the rest of the Tamil films he directed, all of which featured Vijay in the lead roles, turned out to be box-office blockbusters. In 2023, he made his Hindi debut and directed the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan which is now running in theatres successfully.
