Malayalam OTT releases galore
The second weekend of June is a treat for fans of Malayalam cinema as six movies of varying genres released on several OTT platforms. From gripping investigative and survival thrillers to coming-of-age entertainers and quirky comedy dramas, there’s something for everyone. While the week featured the much-awaited direct-to-OTT debut of Asif Ali and Antony Varghese, it also had theatrical hits of actors such as Mammootty, Anoop Menon and Nikhila Vimal releasing on OTT platforms after a long wait. Naslen’s young fans have double the reason to cheer as two of films have found their way to the streaming platforms. Here’s the list of what to watch this weekend:

Mammootty's CBI 5: The Brain on Netflix
The investigative thriller, directed by K Madhu and SN Swamy, has Mammootty’s Sethurama Iyer CBI taking on his toughest case yet. The film, which also has Soubin Shahir, Anoop Menon and Dileesh Pothan, has him and his old as well as new team dealing with a new-age villain. The movie is available to stream on Netflix from June 12.

Nikhila Vimal, Naslen's Jo and Jo on Amazon Prime Video
Director Arun D Jose’s coming-of-age comedy entertainer has Nikhila Vimal and Mathew Thomas playing siblings Jomol and Jomon and revolves around the frustrations and fights between the two, while being stuck at home during the pandemic lockdown. The movie, which can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, also has Naslen, Melvin and Johny Antony.

Ramesh Pisharody's No Way Out on Saina Play
The survival thriller has Ramesh Pisharody is one of his most serious roles yet. The actor plays an entrepreneur who takes a huge loan to invest in a product, just before the pandemic lockdown is enforced. Neck deep in debts and having no other way out, he decides to take his life in this survival thriller streaming on Saina Play. Does fate have one more trick up its sleeve?

Anoop Menon’s Twenty One Grams on Disney+ Hotstar
Debutant director Bibin Krishna’s Twenty One Grams was the surprise hit of this year. The investigative thriller, which has Anoop Menon, Leona Lishoy and Anu Mohan, has a senior crime branch officer investigating a double homicide, only to realise that the killer’s motive keeps changing. Does the team save the suspects or hunt the killer? The film is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Jis Joy’s thriller revolves around an actor, whose personal and professional life is in disarray, being held hostage by two strangers. But is their aim just the money or something else? The movie, which was a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV, has Asif Ali, Nimisha Sajayan and Antony Varghese in the lead.

Sharafudheen, Dinoy Paulose’s Pathrosinte Padappukkal on ZEE5
The quirky comedy entertainer, which is streaming on ZEE5, revolves around Pathrose and his three indolent sons played by Sharafudheen, Dinoy and Naslen. After the father loses hope on two of his sons, it’s up to Dinoy’s character to step up. Only problem is he is happy not to take up any responsibilities in this life!
