Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Special: Did you know Ayan Mukerji has directed only three films since 2009?

Today is a special day for filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and the entire team of Dharma Productions as the popular romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has clocked 10 years since its inception. On this special day, Ayan has penned down a special letter for the fans of the film.

In the long letter, the ace filmmaker wrote, “ YJHD - My second child, a piece of my heart and soul - 10 years old today! ️I think after all these years, I can confidently say that… Making this movie was one of the greatest joys of my life! And what we achieved with it - with all its perfections and imperfections - is a source of great eternal pride for me! Strangely, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani fully from beginning to end, since the day it was released… (Always pushing towards the next milestone, and not looking back enough…!)”

“But when I’m older and wiser - I think I will watch the movie at least once a year - because a big part of who I was and how I looked at life - is forever captured in this movie! In recent months, I have often had people recognize me and come up to me… and I’m thinking they will say something about Brahmāstra, and then they started talking about YJHD! So, putting out a whole lot of gratitude for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani… and all the many people who connected deeply with the movie over the years!” he wrote.

Though this film became a blockbuster, little do people know that director Ayan has directed only three films in his career so far – all of which are blockbusters.

The three films are Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Brahmastra. Interestingly, all these films feature Ranbir Kapoor in key roles.

Wake Up Sid

Mukerji made his directorial debut at the age of 26 with the film Wake Up Sid (2009). Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma in the lead role, careless rich college student, Siddharth Mehra (Kapoor) who learns the importance of becoming an independent personality by Aisha Bannerjee (Sharma). The film was released on October 2, 2009, and earned over Rs 50 crores globally at that point in time.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

It has been 10 years since the film was released. Starring Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in lead roles, this film defines what an ideal friendship looks like – which has a fair share of happiness and struggles.

Brahmastra

2022 would have felt incomplete in the absence of Brahmastra, fans say. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in key roles, this film encircles the lives of Shiva and Isha, a young couple, who learn about the secrets of the Brahmastra. Together, they are on a mission to stop the lethal forces from destroying the universe. The film minted over Rs 500 crores at the national level.

Interestingly, all these films have been produced by Dharma Productions.
