The era of re-releases has now reached its pinnacle, with movies being re-released in large numbers and managing to perform well at the box office. This week, while we were focused on the clash between Fateh and Game Changer, we witnessed another interesting clash. This time, it was between Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. While the Deepika Padukone-Ranbir Kapoor starrer has been on the big screen for a week, the Ameesha Patel-Hrithik Roshan starrer released on January 10. However, it seems the Ayan Mukerji directorial has clearly overshadowed Roshan's debut movie, which comes as a surprise.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani vs Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which opened on January 3, 2025, has been enjoying a strong run at the domestic box office. Upon its re-release, the movie has managed to earn impressive numbers compared to other re-releases. Over the past weekend, the movie grossed ₹3.75 crore nett, taking its repeat-run earnings to ₹15.75 crore nett. This performance surpasses most other re-releases, except Tumbadd, which saw a roaring reception but benefited from a higher marketing budget.
The Dharma film has outperformed the re-releases of Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer Zaara, Jab We Met, Rockstar, and Laila Majnu. Remarkably, it has also left behind Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, which released on January 10 but managed to earn only ₹50 lakh, falling far behind YJHD.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani's re-release on January 3 was widely discussed, and theaters seemed prepared, yet the response was overwhelming. The rom-com initially had over 750 shows on its first day, but due to high demand, the show count was increased to approximately 1,600 by day two. This is a massive achievement for a film re-releasing after nearly 12 years.
Originally released on May 31, 2013, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani grossed around ₹188 crore (nett). The movie, made on a reported budget of ₹40 crore, earned ₹302 crore worldwide. It will be interesting to see what milestones the film achieves now.
