Yatra 2 trailer - Mammootty and Jiiva shine in the controversial political drama

The official trailer for Mammootty and Jiiva's political biopic Yatra 2 is out. Written and directed by Mahi V Raghav, the new trailer takes audiences through what inspired YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (played by Jiiva) to start the ‘Odarpu Yatra’ after his father YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s (played by Mammootty) death. The trailer also features conspiracies that took place to prevent him from going on the yatra. 

In the trailer, one can see some well-known stars from different industries. Although the trailer itself is underwhelming, Mammootty and Jiiva have done a good job at playing political leaders. The trailer also suggests that then-Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu feature in the biopic. 

All about Jiiva and Mammootty's Yatra 2

Written and directed by Mahi V Raghav, Yatra 2 is the second installment of the Mammootty-starrer 2019 political drama Yatra. The first part was about YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s political journey, while the second part will see Jiiva play the role of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his rise to becoming the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister. The film also stars Mahesh Manjrekar, who plays Chandrababu Naidu; Suzanne Bernard as Sonia Gandhi; and Ketaki Narayanan as YS Bharath.

The camera is cranked by Madhie, while Santosh Narayanan scores the music for Yatra 2. The film is bankrolled by Shiva Meka under the V Celluloid and Three Autumn Leaves banners.

Jiiva was hesitant to be part of Yatra 2

In a recent interview, Jiiva revealed that he was hesitant to be part of Yatra 2 due to its political nature. However, he was "blown away" after hearing the script. The actor initially sought advice from Mammootty, who advised him to treat it just as another role and that just because he is part of a political film, it doesn't mean that he supports a particular political party. This helped Jiiva ace the role.

Jiiva went on to reveal that Yatra 2 is not just a political drama but an emotional tale. He added that the film revolves around how Jagan became the incumbent Chief Minister, who came to power after the untimely passing away of his father, YS Rajasekhara Reddy. 

Yatra 2 is slated to be released in theatres on February 8.
