Yatra 2 first look: Jiiva to play Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy

Upcoming Telugu movie Yatra 2 focuses on the political journey of the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Director Mahi V Raghav has recently unveiled the film’s first look, putting an end to all the speculations surrounding it. It’s now been confirmed that Tamil actor Jiiva will portray YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the movie. The first-look poster features Mammootty and Jiiva donning white attire and facing each other.

Earlier reports suggested that Mammootty would reprise his role as YSR in Yatra 2 . The movie is scheduled to release on February 8, 2024, five years after the release of Yatra. The sequel, set between 2009 and 2019, will highlight some crucial moments that shaped Jagan’s political career. The film’s release is strategically timed to coincide with the elections in Andhra Pradesh. Santhosh Narayanan - who is known for his music in Kabali, Vada Chennai and Mahaan - has composed the songs for Yatra 2. The technical crew includes R Madhie (as the cinematographer) and Shravan Katikaneni (as the editor).

The plot of Yatra

The biopic of YS Rajashekhara Reddy was a huge commercial success. The movie is based on the life events during the padayatra of the former Andhra Pradesh CM. Yatra showed how YSR faced the elections in 2004, after the ruling party decided to snap polls. The film sheds light on real events, such as how YSR used his derisory resources to fight the elections through his padayatra. Essentially, the film is about this journey, the people YSR met during the campaign and how he managed to overcome the limitations imposed by the Congress. Mammootty’s nuanced performance in the film was highly appreciated.

Yatra - more than a ‘propaganda film’

Yatra was a biographical drama that pays tribute to YSR, which also aimed at influencing the elections. Despite that, the movie is well-made and has several gripping moments. The pacing is slow, but the powerful performances of actors like Jagapathi Babu, Sachin Khedekar, Vijayamma Garu and Rao Ramesh make up for it. The film serves as an emotional ride with some special moments for YSR fans.
