Samantha is returning to Telugu cinema after two years with Yashoda, a new-age thriller directed by Hari and Harish. The film produced by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad under Sridevi Movies is all set to release on November 11 this year in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Kalpika Ganesh, Unni Mukundan, Rao Ramesh and Sampath Raj essay important roles in the film. The theatrical trailer was launched across five languages earlier today.
The trailer commences with Samantha a.k.a Yashoda, a surrogate mother, saying that a mother gets to hear two heart-beats in the same body and she is surrounded by a group of women around her. An influential woman (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) from a fertility clinic asks her to take good care of the child as it would enter the house of a prominent person. She is also in love with a medico, a role played by Unni Mukundan.
There's something fishy that Yashoda notices when a woman experiences strange symptoms in a clinic. The focus shifts to a series of murders and a group of men try to find answers. Rao Ramesh is introduced as a corrupt politcian in the middle of a scam. What connects Yashoda to these notorious activities and why is she running for her life? What makes her stand up for herself? The trailer ends with a mythological parallel, discussing how Yashoda raised Lord Krishna.
The makers of Yashoda succeed in retaining the suspense around the plot and pique our curiosity without conveying much. In a space that reminds of Vidya Balan's Kahaani, Samantha is in the form of her life and kicks some butt with vengeance. The gripping background score by Mani Sharma contributes to the impact. Apart from Yashoda, Samantha will be seen next in the Vijay Deverakonda starrer Kushi and the epic drama Shaakuntalam.
