It's been reported for quite some time that Rocking Star Yash was being considered to play the chief antagonist of Raavan in Nitesh Tiwari's shot at the epic Ramayana. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are billed to play Lord Rama and Sita Devi respectively with the makers, apparently, keen on getting a 'pan-Indian' actor of Yash's stature to essay the all-important role of the antagonist.
However, just when things appeared to be falling perfectly well in place, reports emerged confirming that the KGF 2 actor has turned down the offer. His reasons, according to the same reports, include not wanting to take up a negative role at this crucial juncture of his career, where fans, critics and pretty much everyone else are looking forward to his next move.
Filmfare reports that, although Yash was quite keen on essaying the iconic role, it was Yash's team that advised him against it.
And it seems that the actor's fans, too, are in agreement with this decision as social media slowly brims up with reactions to these latest reports. On the one hand, a majority of them opined that it was indeed a wise call to not be part of a project of this kind, highlighting that Bollywood is not the most conducive place for the actor.
"Very good decision 馃憦馃徎馃憦馃徎 Kjo and Alia would've ruined his image and future projects if he took up the role. Glad he learnt the lesson from Vijay Deverkonda," wrote one Twitter user, while another said "Thank God! Stopped watching Bollywood movies since 5 years (We don't want to see him in Bollywood movies) It's a degrade to his brilliant acting!". Several comments of this nature emerged right after it was reported that Yash has turned down the Raavan offer, suggesting that Bollywood's impression among the audiences still requires some mending.
A few others reckoned that having Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt headlining a project of this kind was a bad idea. While a part of this section felt that another iteration of Ramayan was unnecessary (considering Adipurush is already on its way), the rest thought Ranbir and Alia lacked the required gravitas for the roles.
So, it seems that Yash's priorities are set quite clearly and full-fledged negative roles aren't part of his radar as of yet. The internet has thrown up names like Chiyaan Vikram and a few more as suggestions to Nitesh Tiwari & Co. and if the makers are quite keen on getting a South Indian actor on board, they have options in plenitude anyway.
