For very many months, there were rumours galore that Rocking Star Yash had been approached to play Ravan in the latest cinema adaptation of the Ramayana, which has Ranbir Kapoor as Ram. Yash’s fans were convinced these were rumours at best and that he would not play villain in a Bollywood production, primarily based on the actor’s oft repeated line that he wasn’t going anywhere and was bringing everyone to him.

The assumption was that Yash would only do films with him in the lead, which would primarily be Kannada films that would also be presented in other languages, and that he would get talent from across the world to be a part of these projects, like he is doing now with Toxic. Well, turns out Yash is going after all and is, indeed playing Ravan in the upcoming film, which will be his next project after Toxic.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash detailed the circumstances under which he came to collaborate with Namit Malhotra, the CEO of DNEG VFX Studio, who is also producing Ramayan. DNEG is the VFX partner for Toxic and during their many interactions, Namit broached the idea of partnering up on Ramayan too, which seemed like an exciting idea to Yash.
As for playing Ravan, the KGF star says that it’s the only character he would have liked to do. “As an actor, Ravan is the most exciting character to play. I really like the shades and the nuances of the character. There is vast scope to present it in a very different way. Hopefully it is going to be a unique approach to playing Ravan,” he said.
Yash is currently working on his 19th film, Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by KVN Productions. The film was meant to be an April 10, 2025 theatrical release, but shooting delays have upset that plan. A new date will be announced in due course of time.
