It looks like before Mani Ratnam's magnum opus around the Cholas, Ponniyin Selvan 2 hits screens on April 28, director Dharani Rasendran's Yaathisai, which delves into the Pandiya dynasty will release on April 21. The trailer of the film was launched recently and it has won a lot of appreciation among fans. The plot of is said to revolve around the 7th century Pandiya prince Ranadheeran, who was the ruler at the time when the Chola dynasty had lost its power and its people were forced to live in the forests.

The visually appealing trailer shows how the kings fought for authority and waged wars against kingdoms for land, people, rights and virtue. Yaathisai also has the tagline, 'Authority leads to oppression'. The film has an ensemble star cast comprising Shakthi Mithran, Seyon, Rajalakshmi, Guru Somasundram, Chandrakumar, Semmalar Annam, Subathra, Samar, Vijay Seyon, S Ruby Beauty, Rajasekar, Vaidehi, Seenu, Sabdhaseelan, Jamaal, Nirmal, Sureshkumar tamizhselvi, Sathish Nadarajan, Sidhu, Pascal, Samson, Sanjay and Suji subha to name a few.

Though the film doesn't have many big names to its credit, barring one or two, the trailer, the sleek and stunning visuals and the presentation has won the hearts of fans. Netizens have been lauding how the team managed to pull off such a periodic film with a limited budget.

While the music for the film is by Chakravarthi, cinematography is by Akilesh Kathamuthu and editing is by Mahendran Ganesan. Dialogues are by Thirumurugan Kalilingam. The film is bankrolled by Venus infotainment & Six star entertainment.

In the meantime, the second instalment from Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan will hit exactly a week after the release of Yaathisai. The film has a star-studded cast comprising Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi to name a few. Music for the film is by AR Rahman, cinematography by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad and art direction by Thotta Tharani. The film is bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
