With no new release date announced, Tamil cinema faces a dry festive period, as Vanangaan is the only film releasing

One of the most expected films, Vidaamuyarchi starring Ajith Kumar in the lead role, was slated for a Pongal release in January. However, with only a few weeks left, the makers on Tuesday announced that the action thriller has been postponed. A new release date is yet to be announced.
Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi was one of the most anticipated films from Tamil cinema in 2025. Tamil cinema which had been laying low in 2024, is expected to bounce back and Vidaamuyarchi was to be the first biggie to release in 2025. Slated for a Pongal release, ahead of this, Lyca Productions which is bankrolling the film announced that the film will not be releasing on Pongal day, disappointing their fans with the New Year’s wish. A new release date is yet to be announced. As per reports, it is due to financial reasons, the production has to push the release.
Now with Vidaamuyarchi out of the Pongal race, and the only film which is scheduled to release being Arun Vijay’s Vanangaan, it looks to be a dry festive period for Tamil Nadu during Pongal. The state which usually sees multiple releases during this time, especially star releases, will not witness it.

The film is directed by Magizh Thirumeni in his maiden collaboration with the actor. Besides Ajith Kumar, Vidaamuyarchi also stars Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra and others. While an exact release date is yet to be announced, the film is backed by Lyca Productions and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. As per reports, the film is said to be a remake of the Hollywood film Breakdown. However, it has not been confirmed by the makers.
