Djokovic, whose bid for an eighth title win at Wimbledon was quashed last year by Carlos Alcaraz in the final, is making yet another attempt to equal Roger Federer’s record at the grass court Grand Slam. With his right knee still in a compression sleeve, following surgery on a torn meniscus under a month ago, he’s returned to the tournament and won his first-round match.
Had it been any tournament other than Wimbledon, Djokovic said he would not have put in so much effort into a quick recovery process. The Men’s singles round 1 is not complete yet, with a few matches pending owing to rain delays. Britain’s Andy Murray, who is expected to announce his retirement after the tournament pulled out of the singles draw, but will still play the mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu. It’s the end of the road for his singles career.
