Will Puranaanooru be Sudha Kongara's next film? Here's what the director has to say

Filmmaker Sudha Kongara, who is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming Hindi film Sarfira, recently in an interview opened up about her upcoming film Puranaanooru, which was announced with actor Suriya. Keep reading to know about what the filmmaker has got to say about the project.

What did Sudha Kongara say about Puranaanooru?

Sudha Kongara, who helmed the National Film Award-winning Soorarai Pottru, is currently awaiting the release of the Hindi remake Sarfira. Meanwhile the director had also announced that she will be once again teaming up with Suriya for a film titled Puranaanooru.

In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Sudha spoke about her penchant for underdog stories. “When asked if Puranaanooru is also one, she said, "Yes, but it is an anti-system story. It is a story of anti-oppression system. I think most of my stories are set in that milieu.” The director when asked if Puranaanooru would be her next film, Sudha neither said yes nor no. However, she clarified that her next will be a Tamil film.

Puranaanooru was announced as Suriya’s 43rd film. The film is said to revolve around the anti-Hindi riots. At the time of announcement, actors Vijay Vara Varma, Nazriya Fahadh, and Dulquer Salmaan were also said to be part of the cast.

However, rumours began to afloat that the film has been paused, with some speculations also stating that Suriya has opted out of the film. The makers have not given clarity on the project and how it will go forth.

Meanwhile, Sudha is awaiting the release of Sarfira on July 12. The film will feature Akshay Kumar playing the lead role, a man who wishes to build a low-cost airline against all odds. Actor Suriya who played in the original, will be making a cameo appearance in the film. Sarfira’s cast includes Paresh Rawal, Radhikka Madan, Seema Biswas, R. Sarath Kumar, Saurabh Goyal, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Irawati Harshe Mayadev, Anil Charanjeett, Prakash Belawadi, Rahul Vohra and others.
