Even after 15+ years, the character of Raghavan is still fresh in the minds of moviegoers and is part of Tamil pop culture.

The sequel to Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, his immensely popular action thriller with director Gautham Menon, is very much in the works, according to Kamal Haasan.
The actor-politician, who participated in the recent trailer launch of director Gautham Menon's upcoming film, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, said, "Gautham Menon and I talked about the gist of Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 a few years ago. Unfortunately, Corona (virus) interfered."
Kamal Haasan went on to say, "However, it will almost certainly happen again. Vels Film International has asked me to make a project for them, and I am not about to pass up such opportunities. We will complete the project as soon as possible."
Furthermore, he stated that it was the fans, not the filmmakers, who had raised the standard of Tamil cinema.
"I haven't made a significant contribution to Tamil cinema on my own, and it is the film industry that escalates and degrades itself. The industry must continue to produce new and exciting films, and fans are ready to welcome them with a red carpet. There has been no single actor who has raised the bar in Tamil cinema. That has been done by the fans!"
Kamal Haasan stated that the title of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu was inspired by Bharathiyar's poem and expressed his desire to see Simbu shed tears of joy at the film's success.
Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu tells the story of Raghavan, a police officer played by Kamal Haasan, who is on the hunt for two serial killers. The slick investigation thriller was a huge success. Jyotika, Daniel Balaji, and Prakash Raj also had significant roles. For years, there had been rumours of a sequel, but Gautham had finally spoken out about it, at an event.
Speaking about his association with Ulaganayagan, Gautham Menon, in an interview, said, “The entire association with Kamal sir himself is unique. I went in with a lot of respect for the man. I've always wanted to work with him as an assistant or just hang out on set. He kicks open the door in the first scene. I wanted to be the first to fire. It may sound cliche, but it's as if he walked into our hearts.”
Kamal Haasan brings his perspective to every scene, insisted Gautham Menon. “You must be alert when dealing with him. Nothing can be predicted. In one scene, for example, I didn't call cut after he grabbed a plastic bag that Jo's character was putting over her face. He then looked at her, looked around, and tossed the bag in the trash can. That is something you must be able to capture. It would be difficult for me if he performed in a way that I hadn't anticipated because he would ask if I didn't like it.”
Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu streams on SonyLIV or SunNXT.
