Neeraj Pandey took everyone by surprise with his continuation on the web series, Khakee. While the first chapter of the Netflix show was based in Bihar and it received a lot of love, the second chapter's focus shifted to Bengal, Kolkata in particular. The biggest superstars of the city came together in what appears to be one of the most promising Hindi web series of 2025. The filmmaker, who unveiled the trailer of Khakee Chapter 2 just two days back, has now spilled the beans behind why did he really choose a city like Kolkata to tell the tale. Here's what he said...

Why did Neeraj Pandey choose Kolkata for Khakee Chapter 2?

Neeraj Pandey spilled the beans on choosing Kolkata right after Bihar for Khakee Chapter 2 and no, it has not got anything to do with the ongoing situation (at least not at the face of it). During his conversation with Mid-Day, the filmmaker explained that choosing Bengal and Kolkata in particular was his way of remembering the city from his childhood. "I was born and brought up in Kolkata," he recalled, stating that played an important role in him choosing the city for the second chapter.

With Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, Pandey hopes to bring forth the political turmoil in the city back in 2000s. This is when gang wars and political unrest was at the peak in a city where art, culture and cinema are worshipped. "The world of Khakee has always been about larger-than-life conflicts, high-stakes drama and nuanced characters that redefine the lines between good and evil," the filmmaker shared. The upcoming series aims at striking the perfect balance between crime, politics and justice.

Khakee: The Bihar Chapter featured Karan Tacker and Avinash Tiwary. It released in November 2022 and instantly caught the eye of the viewers.

Khakee: The Bengal Chapter features the biggest names in the Bengali industry. Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jeet are pitted against each other. Saswata Chatterjee, Ritwik Bhiwmik and Aadil Khan are also a part of the show this time around. The Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti Ray directorial will release on Netflix. It will be out on March 20.
