Why choose Shukla for Patna Shuklla? Arbaaz Khan says ‘zaroori thodi hai poori community waise ho’ | Exclusive

When Patna Shuklla was announced, netizens questioned why is there a surname like Shukla, Gupta and Tripathi over someone like Yadav, Maurya and Prajapati. When we caught up with Arbaaz Khan, we asked the producer why choose the surname and the same in the title too. While he did not answer the question, Arbaaz did point out that a surname does not represent a community.

“I really don’t have any answer to something like this,” he said, adding, “There’s nothing done intentionally. I think when the script came to me from the writer-director when he brought me, the name Tanvi Shukla was in the script.”

Arbaaz then spoke about keeping the title. “I don’t know whether any emphasis is there to highlight or to affect a certain name or a community. It’s just a character and she happens to be from Patna and she gets famous because she is from Patna so they start calling her Patna Shukla. So it is that. There is nothing else to it. We don't need to find too much of meaning into it you know which is accepted that you know,” he said.

He then gave an analogy on how a surname doesn’t represent a community. “Abhi kisi bhi surname ke upar aap koi film anaaki agar positive or negative character batao. Suppose I'm just saying not this one. Yeah. Doesn't necessarily mean that that name or that particular surname becomes you know this thing. Kitni film ho bhi hum villainous characters mein naam bata dete hain. Zaroori thodi ke bhai wo puri community hai saare us naam ke log waise ho jaate hain,” Arbaaz signed off.
