Vicky Kaushal has been trending on social media today and for all the right reasons. The 35-year-old actor treated fans to an enticing glimpse into his eagerly-awaited film, Sam Bahadur, by releasing its trailer. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, this biopic of former Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army Sam Manekshaw is slated to be released in theatres on December 1.

How Vicky Kaushal became Sam Bahadur

At a press conference on Friday, Vicky spoke about how he got into the skin of his character. He said, “The trickiest part for me was that Manekshaw sir was past the age of 70 in all the interviews that are available for him online. He was already retired then. So, I didn't have any references about how to play him when he was young or middle-aged. I didn't know how he used to walk and talk, since all I had were his pictures.”

“I met his family several times to understand how he was as a young man. I met his grandson on several occasions. We would sit at a desk, and these interactions were a lot of fun. I enjoyed the process; the process was very stimulating for me as an actor. We have given this film our all,” Vicky said.

The Sam Bahadur teaser

Unveiled at a grand event in Mumbai on October 13, the teaser for Sam Bahadur commences with Sam Manekshaw, played by Vicky, delivering an inspiring message to his fellow soldiers. He says, “Ek soldier apne wardi ki izzat ke liye apne jaan bhi de sakta hai (a soldier can give his life for his uniform).”

The teaser gives a sneak peek into Fatima Sana Shaikh's role as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. One also gets to see Sanya Malhotra as Vicky's character's wife in the film.
