When Rishab Shetty’s Kantara released in theatres on September 30, it wasn’t certain that the film would last put on a stellar show for 25 consecutive days. However, contrary to the initial assumptions, the film went on to become one of the unprecedented successes of all time and much to everyone’s delight and surprise is still going great guns at the box office. Having broken a bunch of records too along the way, Kantara has become quite the buzzword of this season with Rishab Shetty being hailed as a genius for his work as both the leading man and director of the film.
But for Rishab, the journey to this point has taken through multiple checkpoints and each has enunciated the talent that he withheld. Over the previous decade, particularly in the second half, Rishab Shetty consistently grew in prominence as both an actor and filmmaker and began to form a niche for himself in the Kannada Film Industry. As someone who remained under the radar for the longest time, films like Kirik Party, Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, and Bell Bottom helped him move up the ranks and command the same respect that his contemporaries did. In fact, it was Rocking Star Yash who had wished for Rishab Shetty to continue making exciting projects and even achieve national fame one day through his work! Quite interestingly, Rishab did manage to not only keep up the good work but also achieve nationwide popularity at the same time.
Back in 2018, Yash was invited to the special screening of Rishab’s Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale and the KGF 2 star was so pleased with Rishab Shetty’s efforts as a director that he couldn’t help but shower praises on the finesse of his work. “I am really proud of this film and if Kannada cinema is reaching new heights today, it is because we have contributions from all corners. And should he (Rishab Shetty) have the right story for me, I would love to work with him,” said Yash at the time before going on to wish that Rishab Shetty continues to produce authentic content. “I hope he goes on to make many more good films and achieve fame at the national level. And if we were to take our films to other regions, it is through films like these,” he would add.
