Yogaraj Bhat’s films are known to be genuine musical entertainers and his upcoming film Gaalipata 2 is likely to be not any different. The filmmaker has collaborated with Arjun Janya this time around and the duo is said to have striven hard to match the vast expectations that fans have from the Gaalipata franchise.
And for Arjun Janya, the task of delivering on that promise has been quite challenging. Although he has worked with Yogaraj Bhat, the lyricist, on several hit songs in the past, the brand of ‘Gaalipata’ does make things different. In the interviews of the past, Janya has alluded to the fact that Gaalipata 2 is his toughest gig as a music composer among the large slew of projects he is associated with.
“I love every bit of the film – the performances, the humor, the emotions, all of it. But regardless of my efforts as a composer, I don’t suppose my music can match the quality of filmmaking here – all I have done is imbue sincerity into the Gaalipata 2 album,” said Arjun Janya in a recent interview.
Speaking about the quirks of Yogaraj Bhat and how they help the music evolve, Janya added in the same interview, “The Devle Devle song initially had the hook line as Devre Devre and there was no lisp in the earlier version. I remember not being very happy after recording the song because something about it wasn’t working: I would immediately call Bhat sir and confess that the song hasn’t come out the way we expected. And it’s in these situations that we see his intelligence as a filmmaker and lyricist. He told me to make Devre into Devle and re-record that bit. I didn’t buy into that thought immediately but he asked me to trust him: just as I made that small change, the song became something else”.
Yogaraj Bhat and Arjun Janya have previously worked on a number of chartbusters including the popular ‘yenne’ songs like Naav Maneg Hogodilla and Khali Quartru Bottli Hange Lifeu (both sung by Vijay Prakash).
Gaalipata 2 features seven different songs with four of them already out in the public domain. Yogaraj Bhat has also served as the lyricist of multiple tracks on the album with Jayant Kaikini taking care of the rest. The film releases on August 12.
