The 2006 release ‘Vivaah’ was one such film that really stood out because of its simple content and stellar performances by the film’s actors. For those who had missed the film, let us tell you that, ‘Vivaah’ starred Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao in the leading roles and seasoned actors like Mohnish Bahl, Anupam Kher, Alok Nath and others formed the rest of the all-important cast.

No sooner was the film released, people were praising the performances of everyone in the film. esp. Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao. The film also remains one of Shahid Kapoor’s all-time best performances in his career. Did you know that Shahid Kapoor had actually asked the film’s director Sooraj Barjatya to replace him in the film ‘Vivah’? Well… the same was revealed by none other than Shahid Kapoor himself in a recent interview with Pinkvilla.

In the interview, Shahid Kapoor revealed that, one day, when they were shooting for the wedding sequence in the film ‘Vivaah’, Sooraj Barjatya had come to his van, when they had shot for around ten days for the film. Seeing Sooraj in front of him, Shahid Kapoor asked whether he wanted to replace him. And when he asked why he was saying that, Shahid Kapoor told him that, within a span of one month, he had three flop films and that people were ‘obviously’ not liking him. Shahid Kapoor added that, post that question, Sooraj Barjatya just looked at him straight in his eyes and asked whether he knew what to do between action and cut and how to do his job as an actor, to which, Shahid replied that he did know. After that, Sooraj Barjatya told him to just focus on that as everything else will come and go. The rest as they say… is history!
