During the Second World War, millions of Jews died in the Holocaust. We Were The Lucky Ones is a World War 2 drama thriller that explores the struggle of a Jewish family, scattered by the chaos of world politics and attacks, trying to find one another.
Directed and executively produced by Thomas Kail, We Were The Lucky Ones is a series adaptation of Georgia Hunter’s eponymous novel, based on her maternal grandfather Addy Kurc’s escapades during WWII. The limited series premieres with three episodes on Hulu March 28, 2024, onwards, dropping further episodes weekly. The show dropped its trailer on February 9, as a wonderful ending note to Chocolate Day.
The trailer of We Were The Lucky Ones shows the happy Kurc family, comprising of our protagonists Addy and his youngest sister Halina, along with elder brother Genek and his wife Herta, sister Mila and her husband Selim and baby Felicia, brother Jakob, mom Nechuma, and dad Sol. The series is expected to follow the novel closely and trace the struggle of the family as they try to survive war-ravaged Europe and get back together.

The show explores the family in its different stages of pre-War bliss, War-declared anxiety, and during-War struggle for survival. Though fans of the original book know the fates of the characters, the trailer offers enough indication to hint at a mature exploration of grief, along with the themes of faith, hope, and love, in a unique portrayal of the brutal effects of the Second World War.
We Were The Lucky Ones has a solid cast, with a mix of stars and underdogs. Addy and Halina are being essayed by Logan Lerman and Joey King respectively, along with the talented likes of Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Morak Rosenblatt, Michael Aloni, Hadas Yaron, Eva Feiler, Lior Ashkenazi, Robin Weigert, and Richard Keep.
