When the teaser for Adipurush was unveiled on October 2, 2022, movie lovers couldn't stop themselves from heavily criticizing it. Massive trolls and memes were created about the teaser, which heavily relied on CGI and looked more cartoonish than live-action. The mythological film, based on the epic Ramayana, is directed by Om Raut. Prabhas plays the titular role of Adipurush in the film, co-starring Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh and Kriti Sanon as Janaki.
After seeing the teaser of Adipurush, netizens took themselves back to 2011, when Shah Rukh Khan's first superhero-stint Ra.One hit the big screens. Anubhav Sinha's superhero movie Ra.One was released during Diwali 11 years back. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Rampal, Armaan Verma, Shahana Goswami, Tom Wu, Dalip Tahil, and Satish Shah also appear in supporting roles alongside Shah Rukh Khan, who plays two characters in the movie.
Ra.One's producers, Eros Now, took to their Twitter page and addressed the trend, "We Want Ra.One Back." "When they're all talking about VFX in 2022 and we made #RaOne in 2011," they tweeted.
Take a look at a few tweets, where Twitterati wrote about the fantastic VFX the superhero film had 11 years ago, and it's tough to match that level even after a decade. Netizens even said that Shah Rukh was way ahead of its time when it comes to the cinematic experience.
The movie centres on Shekhar Subramanium (Khan), a game creator who develops a motion sensor-based game in which the antagonist (Ra.One) is more powerful than the protagonist (G.One), and who lives in London in the year 2013. The former (Rampal) leaves the game's virtual world and joins the actual one with the intention of killing Lucifer, Shekhar's son's game ID and the lone opponent of Ra.One's might. The family must summon G.One (SRK) from the virtual world to battle Ra.One and defend them because they are being hunted mercilessly.
