Hum Tum director Kunal Kohli is all set for his debut web series with MX Player Original show Ramyug. Like the name suggests, the show will be based on the epic mythological saga, Ramayan.
The streaming platform recently released a teaser video of Ramyug that also unveiled the logo of the series.
The teaser also features the voice of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan singing Hanuman Chalisa. The track is composed by Rahul Sharma with Ustad Zakir Hussain on tabla.
It is still unclear whether Kohli, who had announced Ramyug as a film, has now scrapped his plans and turned the movie into a web series, or whether he would go ahead with both.
For the uninitiated, the filmmaker had also directed the OTT movie Lahore Confidential, which released on February 4 on ZEE5.
Here's the teaser:
Meanwhile, there are other adaptations of Ramayan also in the works in Bollywood currently. While Akshay Kumar will be seen in Ram Setu, Saif Ali Khan has taken up the avatar of Raavan in director Om Raut's Adipurush. The latter movie also stars Telugu superstar Prabhas.
Additionally, Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari had shown interest in directing a Ramayan trilogy, while Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad had announced that he is also working on a multilingual film, called Sita - The Reincarnation.
Interestingly, when the lockdown was first announced, Doordarshan started re-telecasting the series, Ramayan, that had a huge number of viewers.
