Imtiaz Ali and Diljit Dosanjh are teaming up for the much-anticipated film Amar Singh Chamkila, set to premiere on Netflix on April 12. As the title suggests, the film is a biopic centered around the life of the Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. As the film's promotions are going on in full swing, the recently unveiled poster sparked further buzz across the internet. During these promotional activities, Imtiaz Ali shared insights into the inception of the film's concept, offering intriguing details for fans of Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017) and Love Aaj Kal 2 (2020).
Speaking with The Indian Express recently, Imtiaz Ali shared when he clicked upon the idea of creating a biopic on the life of Amar Singh Chamkila. The 52-year-old filmmaker shared that the idea of turning the singer’s biopic into a film came to him between the release dates of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal in 2017 and Love Aaj Kal 2 in 2020.
“I think it was after (Jab) Harry (Met Sejal) and before the release of Love Aaj Kal 2, I was thinking about Chamkila. The first screenplay of Chamkila was written by my brother Sajid and then I took it up and started doing my own research. So, this was a very different film for me. It’s a biopic and I had decided to be authentic in it and not lie at all, as much as I could rely on the authentic information,” he told the news outlet.
The film Amar Singh Chamkila marks Imtiaz Ali’s debut in the OTT world as a filmmaker.
Not only this, but Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has also teamed up with Imtiaz Ali to score the music for his upcoming biographical drama film, Amar Singh Chamkila.
Speaking with News 18, AR Rahman outlined why he chose the film. Rahman said that he loves the work process of Imtiaz. Further, Rahman added that he always wanted to contribute to the Punjabi music industry. “I love the potency in the language in music. So, this was a great opportunity,” he said.
