Vikramaditya Motwane's new web series Jubilee has been receiving rave reviews, and actor Wamiqa Gabbi's portrayal of Nilofer Qureshi is being lauded by many.

Set in the 1940s, Wamiqa plays a courtesan in the show who, post-partition, lives in Lucknow and wants to escape to Bombay to become an actress.

In a recent conversation with OTTplay, the actor revealed how her parents reacted to the show and her success.

In the last two years, Wamiqa has featured in some much-talked-about web series and anthologies, such as Grahan, Mai: A Mother's Rage, Modern Love: Mumbai, and the short film Fursat.

Asked about how her family responded to her achievements, Wamiqa told OTTplay, "They are the happiest because they can see me happily living my dream of becoming an actress. But I have to share that my dadi gets very emotional seeing me onscreen. I remember my dadi watching Mai, where in the first episode, my character meets with an accident. The moment dadi saw me soaking in blood onscreen, she just left the room. She told my parents that she could not see me hurt or bleeding, even if it was onscreen. She then started crying. She would say, 'Mein nahi dekh sakti, meri bacchi ko koi maar rahe hai aise'."

She further added, "My parents have watched Jubilee, after which my mother called me to say, 'Iss wari thoda bold role si...aavi tu bada badiya kitta aise' (laughs). My parents are very simple people, and every time I see them being happy and excited after seeing me do well, I consider that a blessing -- that is what I want."

Hailing from Punjab, Wamiqa has made it this far without any support. Now that she has multiple projects in the pipeline, it is only natural to have a career plan to grow as a professional. However, the actor says that she does not plan her life.

"I have no expectations from my journey in terms of the number of films and projects I sign, the popularity I gain, or the number of cars I buy. I get love from the audience as well as from people who are close to me. And I live with a lot of sukoon in life; nothing is more important than that for me, really. I get a high when I do not have expectations and land a good project through auditions. But I feel happiest when I go back home and all my doggies, waiting for me, run up to me to cuddle. Staying content is all that I am working towards," said Wamiqa.

Jubilee also stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sidhant Gupta, Ram Kapoor, and Shweta Basu Prasad, among others. It is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
