One of the most shocking turn of events in recent times has been the unrest in Nagpur, which has created an air of tension across the country. As the situation continues to escalate, the controversy has now reached Bollywood, with Vicky Kaushal's upcoming film Chhaava being blamed for triggering the protests against Aurangzeb’s tomb in Nagpur. The matter gained further prominence when Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mentioned Chhaava while addressing the issue.
Now, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has reacted to the controversy, claiming that the "Urban Naxal ecosystem" is targeting Chhaava and his own film The Kashmir Files for awakening the nation.
Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has always been vocal about socio-political issues. His movies have sparked important yet polarizing discussions, and he remains outspoken about his views. Reacting to the Nagpur violence, Agnihotri has alleged that a "cultural jihad" is being waged against films like The Kashmir Files and Chhaava.
Taking to social media, he wrote: “The #UrbanNaxal ecosystem is waging a cultural jihad against our films—#TheKashmirFiles and #Chhaava are under attack because they dare to awaken the nation. Defeat them in this battle.”
His statement came in response to accusations that films like Chhaava, The Kashmir Files, and The Sabarmati Report are contributing to social polarization. A netizen commented: “The Kashmir Files polarized society. The Sabarmati Report polarized society. The Chhaava movie polarized society. But The Kerala Story could not shake even 0.001% of Kerala's social fabric. My respect for the people of Kerala.”
Agnihotri responded: “Before #TheKashmirFiles, society wasn’t polarized at all. Muslim terrorists in Kashmir were helping Hindus find their houses and the corpses of their loved ones. JKLF never existed. See how, in Bengal, Islamists help in bringing down hanging bodies of Hindu women from trees.”
Vivek Agnihotri is currently working on his next film, The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter, which he is directing. The film is jointly produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi and is presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha Productions.
